The Spiritual Recluse and the Bebop Prism

My new poetry and CD pamphlet is now available to buy! Check out The Spiritual Recluse and the Bebop Prism page for more details, and read some poems and hear some music.

This poem is dedicated to Harvey Holton, a gifted poet and friend, who passed away in January. The world is the worse, less magical and brave, for the loss of you, dear Harvey.

Love me, love me not

A blue turbulence of sea

sweeps the beach's hairline

like a long-haired girl's fretful hand.

The small boy casts stones into the waves,

dripping himself back into the water,

tear by pebble-thrown tear.

APRIL 2008

I initiated and organised a poetry competition in St Monans, Fife, to raise funds for the local school nursery which had been destroyed by fire. I edited and printed three hundred copies of a booklet of the winning and commended poems, judged across three categories: under 12, 12-16 and adult. A successful reading event and poetry exhibition was held at St Monans Primary School, where the poets read their work and received prizes. Over a hundred people attended the event. Money collected from sales of the booklet and from the event are helping the nursery with its fund-raising. The project was financially supported by Fife Council, St Monans Community Council and local businesses. To date, the booklet sales have raised £650!
