The Creativity of Words
One of the things I have discovered in my work is that the physical process of writing inhibits creativity.
This idea may seem improbable, as it is through writing that we express ourselves in the first place.
But on closer examination, it is not the physical process per se that causes the blockages; it is how we teach and imprint this process.
What I have realised, as a writer and a teacher, is that the problem lies in teaching words as units of function.
Words are imagination-constructs.
Even when they are used in the most technical of contexts, they are still sourced from a creative consciousness.
Creative writing approaches can address this imbalance.
They can suggest ways to liberate words from the confines of their physicality.
